Feasibility study for Mark Rothko’s Arts Centre

The idea of ​​creating the Daugavpils Mark Rothko’s Art Centre first appeared in 2003 - celebrating the centenary birthday of Mark Rothko. This project is an attempt to create a new kind of tourism in Latgale region and Latvian market in general using a unique tool for the Latvian scale - the building of the former arsenal in Daugavpils Fortress.

The overall aims of the project are:
- Promotion of cultural diversity, artistic value, growth and development of tourism, thereby contributing to the development of the city of Daugavpils, Latgale, as well as the entire country.
- As a result, of the synthesis of valuable architectural interiors and superb collections of art, to create a unique international cultural and tourism object.

Objectives:
- Reconstruction of the territory of the former artillery arsenal in Daugavpils Fortress and modernization of the adjacent territory, in accordance with the developed design solutions;
- Reconstruction of the interiors and supply of the equipment in all functional blocks of the art center;
- Preparation of the materials for art exhibitions and the establishment of funds for the organization of exhibitions of contemporary art;
- Develop a marketing program to promote the services of the Arts Centre.
